Expert in Decluttering, Downsizing, Home Clearance and Selling

The story behind Trade My Clutter

Hi, I’m Louise, founder of Trade My Clutter.

I started Trade My Clutter in 2015 with a simple aim to offer people a hassle-free way to make some extra cash while decluttering their homes, with a strong focus on recycling and reuse. What began as a practical service has grown into something much deeper and more meaningful.

Over the years, my work has naturally evolved to support people through major life transitions. Today, I specialise in senior moves, downsizing, hoarding, decluttering and house clearances. I understand that clearing a home is rarely just emptying cupboards and loading a van, it’s about stories, memories and belongings that carry deep emotional value.

In 2020, I launched my sister business, My Vintage Market, a vintage and antique refurbishing and selling business. This allows me to offer a truly complete service, from sorting and decluttering through to selling and rehoming treasured items. Together, these businesses provide a compassionate, sustainable alternative to traditional house clearance. Clients take comfort in knowing their possessions will continue to have purpose, whether supporting charities, helping local families, or being transformed into something beautiful once again.

I work with elderly clients preparing to downsize, families navigating the emotional task of clearing a loved one’s home, and individuals who feel overwhelmed by clutter or hoarding. Many clients stay with me long after their initial clearance, returning during later life transitions, or asking for continued support. Others have asked me to support them through their final chapter of life, an honour I approach with humility and care. This ongoing connection is what makes my work so rewarding, it’s not just a business transaction, it’s a relationship built on trust and respect.

Through my journey, I’ve developed a particular interest in hoarding and the psychology behind our attachment to possessions. Trauma, anxiety and life experiences all play a role, and my approach combines compassionate coaching with practical, hands-on support, so clients feel understood as well as supported.

Alongside being a business owner, I’m also a mum to three teenagers and a caregiver to my elderly parents. Being at this stage of life myself allows me to genuinely empathise with the challenges and decisions many of my clients are facing, particularly seniors and their families.

Before starting my business, I worked in Project Management and QA roles within large organisations. While this gave me strong organisational skills and an eye for detail, I realised I didn’t want to be sitting at a desk in a huge corporation. I wanted to be out, working one to one with clients in a more meaningful, people-focused way. Trade My Clutter allows me to use my skills to support clients through life transitions, while My Vintage Market gives me the opportunity to express my creativity by breathing new life into pre-loved pieces.

I love being creative and have a special interest in vintage and retro design. In my spare time I enjoy renovating and upcycling preloved furniture into beautiful unique pieces. I’m in my element when I am selling quirky, interesting vintage items and love to hear the story behind them.
